Intern 2026
Overview
Hi, I am Benedikt, a German student, studying Bachelor of Agricultural Biology at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart. I got the chance to do an internship at the Field Research Centre (FRC). I had the opportunity to become part of the team for three months, assisting with wheat and tall fescue trials as well as the Regenerative Agriculture Dryland Experiment (RADE), which involved working with sheep.
The internship helped me improve my English and develop my research and data collection skills. I was warmly welcomed in the team from the beginning. I worked closely with Mariana, Zane, Dylan, Thinzar, Quinn, Lachie, Luke, Breanna, as well as other staff and PhD students. I learnt a lot about sheep management, grass identification, New Zealand farms and culture.
In addition to the work at the FRC, I had the opportunity to visit different farms, help with milking and shearing of sheep. I also learnt how to surf with Dylan and went on several hiking trips with Zane.

During my time in New Zealand, I had the chance to travel around in this beautiful country. Kiwis are amazingly open and friendly and getting to know them is definitely worth it. I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone. A special thank you to Mariana, who helped me a lot to find my way around. I had a great time at FRC and would definitely recommend it. Cheers!
