Elucidating the physiological mechanism of ‘stay green’ in maize hybrids – crop growth processes and nitrogen economy (PDF 2.3 MB)
Research Overview
James conducted investigations on the ‘stay green’ trait in maize. The experiments looked at the influence of soil moisture and nitrogen on the responses of four maize hybrids which had different ‘stay green’ ratings. He developed an understanding of the physiological basis of the ‘stay green’ trait at the plant-whole crop level, and used this to explain observed yield differences between the hybrids. James was supervised by Prof. Derrick Moot and Prof. Bruce McKenzie.
James now works as a University Lecturer at Egerton University, Kenya.
