Alkaloid profiling for animal health
Research Overview
Andrew aims to use the alkaloid profiles of endophytes in perennial ryegrass to accurately predict animal health issues. Current animal tests are expensive whereas a test based on alkaloid profiling would be much more efficient. Recent testing of mixed endophyte pastures indicates a benefit to animal health but such mixtures require greater animal testing and cost. The proposed system would enable such innovation to be more easily deployed. Andrew is supervised by Dr Alistair Black, Dr Racheal Bryant and Dr Colin Eady (Barenbrug Agriseeds) and is financially supported by Callaghan Innovation.
