Manipulation of the tillering dynamics in a perennial ryegrass seed crop as a response to sowing date, sowing rate and grazing (PDF 1.3MB)

Research Overview

Seed yield in perennial ryegrass seed crops is known to be highly correlated with the number of seedheads produced although ryegrass seed crops can produce a large number of tillers that do not contribute to seed yield. Through a combination of sowing date and sowing rate, the aim was to maximise the number of tillers that produce a seedhead to increase the seed yield produced at harvest.
