Research Overview
Seed yield in perennial ryegrass seed crops is known to be highly correlated with the number of seedheads produced although ryegrass seed crops can produce a large number of tillers that do not contribute to seed yield. Through a combination of sowing date and sowing rate, the aim was to maximise the number of tillers that produce a seedhead to increase the seed yield produced at harvest. Nathan was supervised by Dr Jeff McCormick and Richard Chynoweth (Foundation for Arable Research).
